Today, over 27,000 children died around the world - Global Issues
This statistic is well known. Some say it is higher, some say lower. It of course depends on how you count it. But more importantly, these 27,000 young ones that have died today are largely preventable deaths caused by simple-to-treat diseases, malnutrition, remoteness from clinics both geographically and by affordability. Far from the lens of CNN and other news agencies, usually far from good roads, they die seemingly unseen. If they were to all die in one place, it would be news.
What can we do? For one, we try to alert others to the reality of the marginalized, the disadvantaged, the remote who are silently dying. Perhaps the greatest sin is that globally we know what is happening, but we ignore it hoping that it will go away. So we are called to be prophetic and boldly state the truth as we know it. Beyond that we are called to try to make a difference in one small village or slum neighborhood at a time. There is no one solution just as there is no one place that these unnecessary deaths are taking place.
