Bolivia in Leadership Role with respect to Climate

This week Bolivia hosted a series of meetings concerned with climate change and what to do about it. It was not an "official" UN or any other world body sponsored event. We are proud that Bolivia, certainly not a "player" in world politics, played this role. There were something like 20,000 people in Tiquipaya, a suburb of Cochabamba for the summit. It was pretty crowded out there. We are even prouder that Alice Bootman de MontaƱo was a translator. Pretty cool.
This link takes you to the comments of Evo Morales, the president of Bolivia. It gives some of the rationale on why Bolivia hosted these meetings. It is not obvious what the long term effect of the summit will be. The ideas generated here will go to the meetings in Cancun later this year. If one or more of the ideas and proposals from Cochabamba make even a small difference in saving the planet, it was worth it.
